Spicy Buffalo Cauliflower Sandwiches

Words can’t even describe how amazing this sandwich is that I’m sharing with you today. It’s got to be the most flavorful sandwich I’ve ever created and inhaled (yes, inhaled) in my home-cook life. I told you, I can’t even. It’s THAT good!

Buuuut I’m a food blogger. So I’ll give it my best shot.

It’s….

Spicy

Complex

Decadent

Bold

Crunchy

Creamy (right?)

and best of all, Healthy! I mean, this sandwich is filled with straight vegetables! Then the bread doesn’t count, right??

So there is definitely some inspiration behind this sandwich. Oh how I wish I could take credit for imagining a spicy roasted cauliflower sandwich that tastes like a freakin’ party in your mouth buuuuut, sadly, I cannot.

Over the summer, I went to Mike Isabella’s newish sandwich shop in Washington DC called G. Yep, G. On their menu, they serve a Roasted Cauliflower Sandwich with romesco, pickled vegetables, and paprika— so, clearly, I was ordering it. Nate ordered their Falafel Pita (a solid choice), but as soon as I opened up my Cauliflower Sandwich, he was literally drooling. I’m kind of not exaggerating ;). And it was HUGE! Like I could have eaten this sandwich for 2 meals and still been stuffed. So, me being the best fiancé that I am, I handed over half my sandwich in exchange for a few bites of falafel (which was delicious, I might add).

Ok, back to me.

First bite: Tender, yet crunchy cauliflower smothered in a spicy chili sauce with pickled veggies—- is this real life? And layered on a soft french loaf that most definitely came straight from the oven? Like who even thinks of that magic? Mike Isabella, you have risen in the ranks my friend.

Second bite: Ohhhmmyyygeeee I can’t stop eating this!

Third bite: MUST. RECREATE. THIS. IMMEDIATELY.

The rest is history.

Well, I finally did it! It took LOTS of tweaking, and of course it’s not exactly like the restaurant, but I must say, this recreation is really freaking good! This sandwich has got the perfect amount of spice, thanks to this seriously complex-tasting chili sauce, but is made with a surprisingly small amount of ingredients. Pick out a delicious baguette or ciabatta loaf and you’ve got yourself a party!

Plus, check out the similarity of photos—  this was kind of cool that they came out looking SO close to one another. The top photo is the version I made at home and the bottom is the one I ate at G my Mike Isabella. Not too shabby!

What are you waiting for? GO MAKE THIS NOW. You’re welcome 🙂

  1. Sighhhhhh I would be in the kitchen making this already back in the days when I ate spicy foods. Sadly, I cannot tolerate much spice anymore, but my tastebuds don’t know that! My mouth was watering at every photo!

    • Awwww sad story 🙁 I wish there was a way we could create a non-spicy version for you! Darn sriracha!

    • Thanks!! It’s such an odd concept— but it’s SO SO good!

    • I’m with Rachel – cauliflower in a sandwich is so clever!
FYI I’m literally DROOLING right now. So I don’t blame you for drooling in the restaurant when this sammie was right in front of you 😉

      • Thanks Ellie! I seriously can’t say enough about it— or the original 😉

    • Thanks Emilie!! It’s SO worth putting it on a sandwich!!

  2. I am interested in your mention of pickled veggies in your comments but I don’t see them in your directions. Am I missing something?
