We’re Engaged!

I can’t even express how wonderfully perfect this weekend was. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already heard the great news: Nate and I are engaged!

Do you want to hear the story? Every person I talked to this weekend always jumped straight to, “Sooo, how did he do it?!” so I thought it might be fun to share our story today with you. I always love reading bloggers’ engagement/wedding/anniversary details so I thought you guys might enjoy getting a sneak peak as well 😉

Here’s our story:

Flashback to Friday night. Nate told me he was going to a law function after work, which I easily believed, when really he was metroing down to Old Town Alexandria (right where we used to live) to meet up with my good friend and finish the preparations for the proposal. So stealth.

The next morning, he told me he was taking me to a surprise brunch to celebrate my belated birthday (since we didn’t get to spend my real day together), and still, I didn’t suspect a thing. Nate didn’t tell me where we were going, just that he was taking me to this hot spot in the DC area. He was really throwing me off track at this point. We hopped on the metro, me still without a clue, and we ended up getting off at our old metro stop in Old Town. He suggested we take a walk down by the river before we ate and I happily agreed. This was a weekend routine for us back when we lived here and the river is always so beautiful in the morning.

As we got closer to the water, I noticed a picnic blanket with a basket of food and flowers sitting in the park by the river. At this point, I knew something was going on. My initial reaction was, “What is this?? Is this for us? How did you get this here?!”, sooo confused as to how a picnic was magically awaiting us 20 minutes from our apartment. Before I knew it, Nate was down on one knee asking me to marry him, I was in tears, and I heard the click of a camera behind us.

Turns out, my amazing friend had helped Nate with the set up and was hiding close by with her boyfriend, taking photos of the whole entire thing! As soon as I said yes, and after lots more pictures and hugs, we celebrated with a bottle of champagne and breakfast by the river. Seriously, something out of my dreams.

I was so glad Nate proposed in the morning because we had the whole day to bask in our excitement, call all our relatives and friends, and continue the celebrations into the evening. After a day of sharing our wonderful news, we ended the night with dinner and drinks at Kapnos (pictured below), a Mediterranean restaurant in the U Street area of DC that I’d been dying to go to. A perfect ending to such a perfect day.

I’m seriously on cloud 9 and can’t wait to marry my best friend. I couldn’t imagine myself with a more perfect match and feel so lucky to spend my life with him. We’ve spent 8 incredible years together already and I can’t wait to see what this new chapter of our lives’ brings!

Thank you to everyone for your kind words, excitement, and congratulations. It’s been wonderful sharing our amazing news with all of you and was so touched by this community of bloggers sending their warm wishes. You guys are the best 🙂

    • Aww thanks so much Liv 🙂 It was such a perfect day— I couldn’t have planned a better proposal (or ring) myself!

  2. Congratulations, Liz! That’s so fun that your friends were snapping photos and I couldn’t think of a better way to propose to a food blogger than with a picnic basket and champagne! 🙂
