Did anyone else hop on the cold brew train last summer?
I swear, it was like one day I had never even heard of such a thing, then the next week I was trying it at my local coffee shop and totally addicted. There was just something about that rich, smooth, refreshing taste that hooked me almost immediately.
Well, I guess it’s not THAT surprising, since coffee is one of my favorite beverages, like, ever and I couldn’t imagine going a day without it.
But as much as I love going to coffee shops to enjoy my daily fix, I typically make most of my coffee at home— because it’s just much more convenient when I wake up at the crack of dawn (literally) and it’s SO much more affordable.
Homemade cold brew, though, is not something I see myself making on a regular basis at home. So when I found this Gevalia Cold Brew Concentrate at my local Walmart, I was super excited that I could just pour, mix in my favorite almond milk, and enjoy it on the go!
This Gevalia Cold Brew Concentrate is rich (never bitter, which I’m definitely not a fan of) and delicious, and pairs so beautifully with any kind of milk or cream of choice. Better yet, it’s so much more affordable (and convenient) than heading to a coffee shop every morning.
So this weekend, I decided to take my cold brew to the next level and turn it into this creamy, chocolatey, coffee-flavored smoothie. Ohhhmyygooodness you guys, it was the best decision I made all week!
Ok, so this smoothie is honestly one of the easiest things to make AND it literally tastes like a chocolate coffee milkshake. I’m serious, it’s amazing!
Basically all you do is blend frozen bananas with this Gevalia Cold Brew Concentrate, some almond butter, a little cocoa powder, and a splash of vanilla. That’s IT! It blends together into this rich, creamy, chocolatey, coffee goodness that is healthy enough for breakfast, but (naturally) sweet enough for dessert. And if you’re afraid the banana flavor is super strong— let me tell you, it is the total opposite. The strong cold brew and chocolate flavors completely take over, so the banana simply acts as a natural sweetener and thickener. No banana after taste at all!
I made this most recent version for a post-workout snack, so we topped it off with a little whipped cream and shaved dark chocolate because… why not?! It was absolutely incredible!
