March Happenings

Let’s have some real talk here today. It’s been a long time since I’ve done one of these Friday recap posts.

To be honest, I never quite found my groove with those weekly round ups and favorites, which is probably pretty evident since it’s been so sporadic on this blog.

Back when I first started blogging over 2 years ago (<– what?!?), my favorite bloggers (those same ones that inspired me to start my own space) always had some sort of weekly “favorites” post, where they’d round up the links they’d been crushing on, new things happening in their life, and thoughts from the week. I absolutely loved reading these kinds of posts since it added such a personal touch, and once my blog was live, I was determined to craft my own “Friday Favorites” every week to share my own personal thoughts and inspiration.

Well, that obviously didn’t last long.

I jumped from “Friday Favorites” to “This Friday” to “Loving Lately” without ever quite settling into my comfort zone. And these quickly became the posts I struggledddd weekly to create, not because I didn’t find tons of link love in the blogosphere every week, but because real life happened. Like every week. I mean, it makes sense – running a blog part time while teaching full time isn’t exactly a piece of cake. Not that it isn’t amazing at the same time. I honestly think blogging saved my sanity during my after-school hours where I forced myself to stop thinking about school and dabbled in my creative side. We could talk about that all day, but not today!

Anyways, I feel like I’ve been slacking a lot lately with the lifestyle side of this blog. Don’t get me wrong, this is definitely a food blog through and through, but I truly enjoy adding in a little taste of the happenings in my life just to mix things up a bit. Sometimes those are even my favorite posts to write. Especially travel posts! But I guess you kind of have to travel in order to write travel posts, and we’ve been in a bit of a travel lull lately (mostly because we have a crazy summer of traveling planned…. more to come on that later).

So basically what it comes down to is, I’ve decided to try to incorporate some life stuff in again. Not too often, maybe once a month or so, but I feel like it’s something I’ve truly missed with this blog and need to rekindle. It may not always look the same, it may not always include links or lengthy recaps— but I think I’m ok with the inconsistency, because life is not always consistent.

What do you guys think? Are you interested in some more life posts? Monthly recaps? Travel posts? Or are you totally set with ALL the food and plant based eats??

Well, let’s just try it out today and see how it goes! So let’s recap March!

March has been kind of a blahh month. But definitely not “blahhh” in a bad way, if that makes any sense. We honestly just haven’t had any crazy exciting things happening— just normal life stuff. And that’s totally fine in my book. You honestly need months like this to balance out the super busy ones.

We’ve been home every weekend this month, so we’ve been able to spend lots of time with friends, play around with my photography, take Augie for some beautiful hikes (as you’ve probably seen on my Insta Story— I apologize for the plethora of puppy pics btw!), and I’ve been really diving into my yoga practice. And it’s been feeling AMAZING. For the past few months, I feel like I’ve been less stressed overall, am able to clear my mind on particularly tough days at school, and just breathe and relax. And for the type-A person that I am, that is truly a success!

I also mentioned a few weeks back that I was actually considering doing a yoga teacher training program next year, and it’s still been in the back of my mind as I think about my plans for the fall. Hmmmmm. Decisions, decisions.

Our puppy Augie consumes a lot of our time— I’m sure all you puppy moms and dads can relate— and he is truly a light in our lives. He’s certainly not perfect, we’ve been having some issues with his “Napoleon complex” lately, since he’s all of 8 pounds but thinks he’s 50 pounds. If anyone has some tips for barky dogs who have a hard time greeting other dogs on-leash calmly, we’re all ears! But besides that hiccup, I feel like we really lucked out.

At 10 months, he’s totally potty trained, we can keep him out of his crate during the day while we’re at work (which was our ultimate goal after crate training), and he’s sweet as can be! We’ve even talked a little bit about getting a second dog after dog-sitting for our friends a few weeks ago… but who knows if that’ll actually happen… they’re just SO much fun!

Those are about all the updates I have from this month of normalcy. Things are going to start picking up for us in April— I’m heading to visit my sisters in Philadelphia again over spring break, and then my husband graduates from law school in May, and then all hell breaks loose this summer! Like for real, we are going to be ALL OVER THE PLACE during June, July, and August before we move to DC, but we’ll just take it one step at a time for now.

So what about you guys? Any fun, exciting life stuff happen in March? Feel free to share it out in the comments below!

  1. Agree with the difficulties of blogging+teaching+trying to keep up with lifestyle posts! Yoga teacher training sounds amazing! Can’t wait to hear more about all the summer travels!

    • Real life woman!! It’s certainly going to be busy but I seriously can’t wait 🙂 I want to catch up on how teaching is going soon!

  2. Sometimes the non-eventful months are the best!! My month has also been pretty uneventful and it’s been nice to be able to take the time to focus on what matters the most to me right. Hopefully this trend will continue into April as well 🙂

    • I totally agree! You need months like this to balance out the crazy ones!

  3. I love the life posts! I totally hear you though, sometimes working full time can make blogging a challenge. I’ll come home after a day of work and just sit in front of my computer with nothing interesting to write at all lol. Excited to hear more about your summer plans 😉

    • I totally have the same problem! Sometimes, there is just nothing interested to write about lol #reallife
