A few weeks ago, my family and I took a spontaneous weekend trip to Asheville, North Carolina (one of my most favorite cities in the south). We spent most of our time visiting the Biltmore, which, if you haven’t heard of it before, is AWESOME!
The Biltmore Estate is the gorgeous, historic home of the Vanderbilt’s that was built back in the late 1800’s. Words can’t describe how incredible this house is— full of history, charm, and surrounded by the most gorgeous gardens.
We spent our day exploring the grounds, touring the stunning, historic house, and tasting wine at their on-site winery. Here are some of my favorite pics from the day— it was so hard to narrow them down!
The next morning, we started our day off with one of the BEST breakfasts I’ve ever had. Like ever. Sunny Point Cafe is truly a special place. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and ALSO have a huge garden that supplies most of the fresh produce for the restaurant.
Unfortunately, they don’t take reservations (so there is almost always a wait), but you can grab a cup of coffee and take a relaxing walk through the garden while you wait for your table! It’s pretty fabulous. Or, you could just get there right before 8 am like we did (there was already a line) and get right in!
I ordered one of their daily specials: the Asparagus & Mushroom Scramble with Scape Butter, Fried Green Onions, Herbed Potatoes, and Focaccia. This was literally my dream breakfast! My sister ordered their enormous Garden Omelet with spinach, pesto, and tomato concasse, which was fabulous as well. They also have vegan options for most of their breakfast– tofu scrambles, tempeh bacon, the works. I can’t recommend this place enough!
After our delicious breakfast, we spent the rest of our morning walking through the little city of Asheville, getting coffee at Double D’s (yes, that double decker bus down there), and donuts at Vortex Doughnuts.
On past trips, we’ve spent quite a lot of time checking out some of their MANY breweries, but our short little trip didn’t allow for that this time. Guess I’ll just have to squeeze another trip in this year 😉
If you ever get the chance to visit Asheville, DO IT! Definitely take a full day to visit the Biltmore and give yourself at least 2 days just to eat and drink your way through this city.
Did I mention all the great hiking they also have??? Such a gem of a city!
