This weekend (well, specifically yesterday) marks the one year date until our WEDDING DAY! That’s right, October 8, 2016, I will officially become a Mrs. Whattttt?!? Yeah, it’s still kind of surreal to me, too. Surreal, and absolutely one of the most exciting years of my life.
First of, I get to marry my best friend. Nate and I started dating our senior year of high school and I feel so lucky that we’ve already experienced so much life together. He’s been my other half for as long as I can remember, my rock through my emotional ups and downs as a teacher, my travel buddy as we jet-set across the country, my sense of humor when I get stressed, my workout buddy pushing me through some insaneee spinning sessions, and the best taste-tester I could ever ask for since I began this blog almost a year ago. I think I’ll keep him around 😉
Nate proposed back in June while we were in DC for the summer and it couldn’t have been more perfect (check out my post for all the juicy details). We put off planning for about a month, but decided pretty early on that we wanted to get married over Columbus Day weekend of 2016. That being said, venues were already getting scooped up for that popular holiday weekend, so we got to planning stat!
We’ve been working through the details piece by piece and already have a good amount planned for the big weekend. Did I mention I’m one of those weird people who’s an INSANE planner?? Yeah, this whole wedding planning thing is like Christmas morning to me! So much to do, but so much fun in the process 🙂
I thought I’d share a few details about our big day just for fun….
Our Venue: The Rickhouse, Durham
As soon as we walked into this space, Nate and I just looked at each other and knew it was the one. The hardwood floors, the exposed beams, the huge chalkboard, the in-house distillery— it had literally everything we could have wanted in a wedding venue. Can you believe it was the first venue we even saw? I swear it was meant to be!
The Rickhouse is right in the heart of downtown Durham, about a 5-10 minute walk from all the city’s hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, and bars. Even better, it’s right around the corner from our favorite hang out spots— which gives our guests a little peek into our daily life here in NC. Sheer perfection.
Did I mention the view from the outdoor balcony?? Yep, that’s the old Durham Bulls field from the movie Bull Durham. So cool, right?!?
And how beautiful is the bridal suite? I just want to transport this into my living room, please!
Our Colors: Navy Blue and Mint Green
Our Photographer: Autumn Harrison Photography
The second we met Autumn, we knew she was the one. Energetic, passionate, bubbly, dedicated— now that’s the kind of photographer you want at your wedding!
We met back in September to do our engagement photo shoot at this beautiful state park that Nate and I hike often. Autumn was such a trooper joining us on our favorite trail and spotting some of the most beautiful scenes that we’ve never even noticed before. She kept us energized, comfortable, and excited throughout the whole shoot— which made it seriously painless and ultimately, really fun!
Here are a few of our pictures from our Engagement Photo shoot at Eno River State Park:
So there’s your sneak peek! Buuutttt if you’re looking for more updates, follow me on Instagram as we keep the planning going!!
